How's Your Posture?
We all know that having great posture is ideal. But, sometimes we all can catch ourselves slouching. The way we sit and stand can either help our back pain or worsen it.
Here are a few steps towards better posture. Your back will thank you!
Sitting:
- Sit in your chair with your back against the chair
- Your buttocks should touch the base of the chair back
- Sit up straight with shoulders back
- Don’t try to keep your back stick straight
- Make sure you still have the natural curves in your back (cervical, lumbar, and thoracic curves.)
- Keep your feet flat on the floor
- Don’t tilt or bend your head
- Bend your knees at a right angle or keep your knees a little lower than your hips
Standing:
- Keep your feet shoulder width apart
- Stand up straight, without straightening the natural curves in your back
- Keep shoulders back with chest out
- Do not slouch
- Keep arms at your side
- Keep knees slightly bent to reduce pressure
